Webinar: Circular transition through digitalisation – the role of labelling, visual tracking, AI and common communication standards

The circular economy transition will not take place without a rising role of information. Since resources without identity become waste, we need to assign goods with appropriate information, track them as well as process and transfer this data. It is safe to say that the more value we want to get, the more information we need. Therefore, this webinar will discuss the opportunities to efficiently do so, using state-of-the-art technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, visual tracking systems, the Internet of Things, as well as common communication languages, e.g. GS1 standards.

The role of businesses is crucial in scaling up these innovations, with small and medium companies (SMEs) being the focal point for them to become mainstream. Since 99% of European companies are SMEs the increased role of information in the economy will only be truly successful with their participation. We will discuss how can the uptake of innovative information technologies and systems be facilitated among them.

From the very first day of a particular good lifecycle, it is crucial for the businesses to provide information essential to the optimal use of resources. It allows for the identification of available goods, methods of their use as well as stakeholders interested in these processes. Information on the performance of the activity supports the selection of the best methods of production and use, supports the design of new products, allows for product tracking and the creation of resource return systems, etc. In result the companies can increase their competitiveness and realise the previously untapped potential for reclaiming the economic value that would otherwise go to waste.
